RSMSSB LDC Typing Test: Layout, Speed, and Word-Locking Rule
The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSMSSB) conducts a highly challenging LDC Typing Test for the recruitment of Lower Division Clerks and Junior Assistants.
This test is merit-based, meaning the marks you score in typing are added to your overall written score. It is also famous for its strict word-locking backspace rule and specific legacy font requirements.
1. Speed and Marks Distribution
The exam has separate sessions for Hindi and English. Each session consists of a speed test and an efficiency test:
- English Speed Test: 35 WPM target (10 minutes, 25 Marks).
- Hindi Speed Test: 30 WPM target (10 minutes, 25 Marks).
- Efficiency Test: Tests your MS Office skills (10 minutes, 25 Marks for each language).
- Total Typing Phase Marks: 100 Marks (added to final merit!).
2. The Strict “Word-Locking” Backspace Rule
Unlike central government tests, RSMSSB implements a strict editing limit:
- Word-Locked Backspace: You can use backspace to edit and correct characters in the current word you are typing.
- No Edits After Space: The moment you press the
SpacebarorEnterkey, the word is locked. You cannot go back to correct a locked word. - Arrow keys and mouse click are completely disabled in the typing area.
3. Keyboard Layout and Fonts
- Hindi Font: DevLys 010 is the legacy font used.
- Hindi Keyboard Layout: Remington Gail layout. Unicode (Mangal/Inscript) is not used.
- English Font: Calibri or Courier New on standard QWERTY layout.
- Shortcut Restrictions: Alt key combinations and Ctrl-shortcuts are disabled.
4. Tips for RSMSSB LDC Typing
- Stop Backspacing Out of Habit: Because you can’t correct a word once you press space, focus on typing the word correctly on the first attempt.
- Practice on DevLys 010: Practicing on Mangal or Unicode fonts will not help. Ensure you practice typing on the legacy DevLys 010 font.
- Simulate Word Locking: You can practice with word-locking rules turned on for free on Typing Nexus RSMSSB simulator.
- Efficiency Test Prep: Do not ignore the efficiency test. Learn basic MS Word and MS Excel formatting, margins, tables, and borders, as they carry a massive 50 marks.
