Delhi Police Head Constable (HC) Typing Test Guide
The Delhi Police Head Constable (Ministerial) recruitment process features a highly competitive Typing Test. Unlike most qualifying-only typing tests, this exam is worth 25 marks, and the marks you score are added directly to your final merit list.
Furthermore, the test is conducted in paper-to-screen format, making it quite different from standard online typing assessments.
1. Speed and Marks Distribution
Your score is directly proportional to your speed. Here is how speed is classified for both languages:
- English Typing Speed: Minimum 30 Words Per Minute (WPM) required.
- Hindi Typing Speed: Minimum 25 Words Per Minute (WPM) required.
- Test Duration: 10 minutes.
Marks Breakdown (English/Hindi speed vs Marks):
- Under 30 WPM (English) / 25 WPM (Hindi): Disqualified (0 Marks)
- 30 WPM / 25 WPM: 10 Marks
- 31-35 WPM / 26-30 WPM: 12 Marks
- 36-40 WPM / 31-35 WPM: 15 Marks
- 41-45 WPM / 36-40 WPM: 18 Marks
- 46-50 WPM / 41-45 WPM: 21 Marks
- Above 50 WPM / Above 45 WPM: 25 Marks
2. Test Format: Paper-to-Screen
- Printed Sheet: You will be handed a printed sheet containing the passage to type.
- No On-screen Text: The text does not appear on screen in a split pane; you must look down at the paper and type it directly into a text editor (similar to Notepad).
- Target Keystrokes: Candidates should aim to type at least 2,000 keystrokes in English (approx. 400 words) or 1,750 keystrokes in Hindi (approx. 350 words) to cover the passage and mistakes.
3. Keyboard and Font Rules
- Backspace is Allowed: The backspace key is fully enabled, and you are allowed to correct your typos.
- Hindi Font: The exam traditionally uses the Kruti Dev font on a Remington layout. Verify your admit card instructions for any changes to Unicode (Mangal).
4. Tips to Score 25/25 Marks
- Practice Paper-to-Screen: Do not practice only on screens. Place a physical book or printout next to your keyboard, and practice typing into Notepad without looking at your screen constantly.
- Toggle on Desktop Keyboards: Always practice on standard mechanical/membrane keyboards rather than laptop keys.
- Use Typing Simulator: You can simulate the timing and detailed scoring breakdown using Typing Nexus Mock Test Engine.
- Balance Speed & Accuracy: Since errors penalize your speed calculation, high accuracy is the key to maintaining a speed above 50 WPM to claim the full 25 marks.
