CISF Head Constable Typing Test Rules and Standards
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) conducts a highly disciplined Typing Skill Test for the recruitment of Head Constable (Ministerial) posts.
The test is qualifying, but its strict error evaluation and backspace restrictions make it one of the toughest paramilitary typing assessments.
1. Speed & Key Depressions Requirement
Candidates can choose to type in English or Hindi:
- English Typing Speed: 35 Words Per Minute (WPM) (corresponding to 10,500 KDPH).
- Hindi Typing Speed: 30 Words Per Minute (WPM) (corresponding to 9,000 KDPH).
- Test Duration: 10 minutes.
2. Keyboard Layout and Font Choices
- English Layout: Standard QWERTY layout.
- Hindi Font & Layout: Candidates must use the Unicode Mangal Font with the Remington Gail keyboard layout.
3. Backspace and Navigation
- Backspace is Disabled: Traditionally, the backspace and editing keys (like delete and arrows) are completely disabled during the CISF typing exam.
- No Corrections: Once a character or space is typed, it cannot be modified.
4. Error Margin and Penalty Formula
CISF allows a 5% error relaxation on the total typed words. Errors beyond this limit are penalized heavily.
The Penalty Formula:
For every excess mistake beyond the 5% margin, 10 words are subtracted from your total typed words to calculate your net speed:
Net Speed (WPM) = [Total Words Typed - (Mistakes beyond 5% x 10)] / 10 Minutes
5. Tips to Pass the CISF Typing Test
- Practice Without Backspace: Since editing is disabled, toggle the backspace off. Practice on the Typing Nexus Test Simulator with the backspace blocker enabled.
- Aim for 98%+ Accuracy: Focus on steady rhythm. Typing slower but accurately is far better than typing fast with many mistakes due to the harsh 10-word deduction penalty.
- Simulate Center Conditions: Practice on a standard membrane desktop keyboard to build realistic finger muscle memory.
