Allahabad High Court RO/ARO/Clerk Typing Test Guide
The Allahabad High Court (AHC) conducts a mandatory Computer Typing Test for various recruitments including Review Officer (RO), Assistant Review Officer (ARO), and Clerical Cadre posts.
Unlike normal clerk exams, the AHC typing test features complex legal texts, strict evaluations, and layout challenges.
1. Speed and Qualifying Marks
The requirements are post-dependent but generally follow these guidelines:
- English Typing Speed: 30 Words Per Minute (WPM) (minimum requirement).
- Hindi Typing Speed: 25 Words Per Minute (WPM) (where applicable).
- Test Duration: 10 minutes.
- Qualifying Marks: The typing test is often worth 50 marks, with a minimum qualifying threshold (typically 25 marks or 17 marks depending on the post). Failing to meet the minimum marks results in disqualification.
2. Text Type: Legal Passages
- Legal Jargon: Unlike general typing tests with common prose, AHC passages contain legal judgments, drafts, and legal terminology (e.g., appellant, prosecution, litigation, petitioner, decree).
- Special Characters: Passages contain numbers, section symbols (like §), brackets, and abbreviations (like vs., u/s, etc.).
3. Keyboard Layout and Font Rules
- English: Standard QWERTY layout.
- Hindi Font: Unicode Mangal Font is standard.
- Hindi Layout: Generally supports Inscript or Remington Gail layout. Refer to your specific post’s notification to confirm.
4. Backspace and strict navigation
- Strict Evaluation: While backspace is enabled in some versions, the software utilizes a strict character-matching layout where typos and excessive deletions consume valuable seconds.
- No Auto-Scroll: Be prepared to manually scroll down the passage using the mouse or scroll bar if the text is longer than the display box.
5. Tips to Clear AHC Typing Test
- Practice on Legal Paragraphs: Do not practice only on stories or general news. Practice typing real court orders and judgments. You can access free legal typing passages on Typing Nexus Legal practice portal.
- Aim for 35+ WPM at Home: To ensure you comfortably clear the 30 WPM threshold on complex legal text, practice general texts at 35–40 WPM.
- Perfect Special Characters: Learn to type symbols, numbers, and uppercase characters smoothly without looking down at the keyboard.
